FAQ

Slab pre-pour inspections in Berwick: common questions

What is concrete cover?

It is how much concrete sits between the reinforcement and the outer face of the slab. Too little and the steel can rust and burst the concrete over time.

Why can't mesh touch a pipe?

A 25mm gap lets concrete fully surround both. Contact leaves a weak spot and a route for corrosion.

What do bar chairs do?

They hold the steel at the right height so it sits where the engineer placed it in the slab depth.

Do you check termite protection at slab stage?

We look for collars and barriers at penetrations and whether the durable notice is in the meter box.

Can you come after the pour?

Yes, but most of what matters is then hidden. Pre-pour is the useful visit.

How fast is the report?

Same day in most cases, so the builder can act before the concrete arrives.
